She has fought for school bus drivers, custodians, instructional assistants, teachers, social workers, school psychologists, and hospital workers to be treated with the dignity and respect we all deserve in the workplace.Lesly is committed to using her experiences as a working mom of four and a labor representative to build a stronger economy that helps families get ahead. For decades, establishment politicians in both the Republican and Democratic Parties have failed working people. As a mother and labor organizer in the Oregon Education Association, I have seen firsthand how we are whittled to the bone to make up for austerity budgets.We need massive investment into public education, healthcare, and all public goods. Nike, Intel, and Amazon must pay their fair share to ensure fully-funded schools, universal healthcare, and housing for all.

Tax the Rich

We deserve universal healthcare — including dental, vision, abortion, and gender-affirming care — free at the point of service without bureaucratic red tape.Medical debt is the leading cause of bankruptcy, and many patients don’t get the care they need because the corporate system is so impossible to navigate. At the same time, healthcare workers are brutally overworked as hospitals are turned into assembly lines.In 2026, the Oregon legislature will begin considering a bill to implement a statewide Universal Health Plan. The insurance lobby will do everything they can to water down the bill until it’s rendered useless — I am already in the fight to make sure that does not happen. I will continue to champion the movement for a single-payer system like Medicare, made available to all Oregonians regardless of age or immigration status.

Healthcare for All

Forty percent of Oregon’s carbon emissions come from transportation. We’ve waited far too long to take back our economy and infrastructure from the stranglehold of the fossil fuel industry. As a mom, I will do everything in my power to keep this planet livable for the next generation.We need massive state investment in buses and trains that run on renewable energy. We need expanded public transit services across the state.As State Representative, I will continue to fight for...<ul><li>State funding for local transportation infrastructure including improvements to streets and paths to make cycling accessible, efficient, and safe.</li><li>Possibility of public ownership of energy and other utilities available as an option to all local governments regardless of size, and state government support for communities that choose it.</li><li>Stop the fossil fuel buildout for data centers, reject new gas plants and coal upgrades unless companies commit to using clean energy, pay for grid expansion, and win community approval.</li><li>Require environmental justice reviews before siting data centers or power plants, ensure clean air and water in working‑class neighborhoods.</li><li>Force corporate interests, including data centers, to pay the same rates as residential customers: no favorable rate treatment.</li><li>New regulations that limit industrial pollution and increase testing, especially in high-density urban areas with significant residential population exposure.</li><li>Protection of our state parks, and conservation of our unique ecological heritage for generations to come. We can protect our state’s beauty while also improving access to its wonders.</li><li>Legislation that mandates Green construction for new state buildings and a program to update existing buildings to be cleaner and more efficient.</li><li>A cohesive relationship between the state’s K-12 public schools and its community and four-year colleges and universities to build a pipeline of workers for green jobs guided by a need for a just transition and priority employment for those who live in underserved urban and rural communities.</li></ul>

Public education is a public good. As an organizer with the Oregon Education Association, I have witnessed the amazing outcomes and growth that can occur when children are safe and barriers to a quality education have been removed. Universally accessible, high-quality public education is one of the greatest investments we can make in the lives of all Oregonians. Public schools should be well-funded, guided by best practices, and led by well-compensated, highly-educated professionals. All students deserve opportunities for critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and the development and maintenance of executive function. That means that our children should be taught by real teachers, not primarily by apps and AI bots.Perennial budget cuts and privatization of educational institutions have resulted in our public education institutions being understaffed and ill-equipped to adequately serve learners and communities. This austerity has led to more harmful policies: an over-emphasis on high-stakes testing, extreme punishment practices, and a catastrophic staffing crisis.As a State Representative I will fight for:<ul><li>Comprehensive public funding for universal, high quality, developmentally appropriate pre-Kindergarten.</li><li>Teachers as workers statewide, ensuring that they have fair wages and safe, just working conditions.</li><li>Working to free our children from the horror of screen addiction by promoting limits on classroom screen time and investing in real, human educators.</li><li>Teachers as professionals, ensuring that they have access to high-quality, paid professional development opportunities and are defended from assaults on culturally responsive curricula and censorship.</li><li>Real action on the substitute teacher crisis.</li><li>Fully and better staffed schools, providing holistic support of learners: counselors, wraparound staff, teaching support staff, and sufficient staff for operations such as custodial, meal, and transportation workers. </li><li>A de-emphasis of standardized assessments and removal of the high stakes tied to assessments.</li><li>A rich curriculum for every child that guarantees every Oregon public school student access to art, music, physical education, and world languages.</li><li>Ensure Oregon students have access to a high school curriculum on the history of the working class in our state, including the multiracial labor movements that shaped our state.</li><li>Oppose state-level political interference that would restrict educators from teaching accurate history—especially efforts that ban discussion of race, enslavement and labor exploitation, indigenous displacement, and queer people in shaping Oregon.</li><li>Work toward tuition-free community college and vocational training, with the long-term goal of making all public higher education free and accessible.</li><li>Strong support of Oregon's English Language Learners, including more Newcomer Academies.</li></ul>

Lesly knows that real community safety begins with the abolition of ICE. In her first term, Lesly passed HB 4114: the “Protect Your Door Act” empowered workers to sue federal agents for damages during illegal raids and detentions.Lesly will continue to protect Oregon’s Sanctuary Status, as well as any legislation that makes it harder for federal agents to undermine constitutional protections.
